Adam Hoffmann began his studies in 1938 at A.Terlecki's private school of painting in Cracow. He continued his studies in 1940-42 at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Cracow (which was a clandestine pre-war Academy). During the years of occupation, he established contacts with a group of artists centered around Tadeusz Kantor, later members of the Young Visual Artists Group and, from 1957, the Cracow Group (which, however, he did not join). In 1945-48, he completed his studies at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under the direction of Eugeniusz Eibisch, and also studied printmaking with Konrad Srzednicki. From 1949, he was a teacher at art high schools in Katowice and Cracow. Since 1950, he was associated with the Faculty of Graphic Arts - a branch of the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. In 1974 he moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where he ran a drawing studio at the Graphics Department until his retirement in 1978. He taught, among others, the later members of the "Wprost" group, with whom he maintained contacts and artistic affinity in later years, being treated by them as a doyen and authority, including moral.
