He was a co-discoverer of the phenomenon of blood group inheritance. The nomenclature he introduced (A, B, AB, O) was adopted worldwide. He determined the Rh factor and discovered the cause of serological conflict. His second passion in life was his work as an educator. He raised many outstanding scientists.

Prof. Ludwik Hirszfeld (1884-1954) - outstanding bacteriologist, serologist and immunologist, humanist and patriot; founder of the Polish school of immunology, founder of the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wroclaw. His body of work includes almost 400 scientific papers, of great importance in biology, medicine and law (in paternity determination cases).
