A German-language biography of Józef Piłsudski by Anton Loeßner, based primarily on the Marshal’s writings, speeches, and memoirs. The book traces Piłsudski’s journey from his independence activism, through his time in the Legions and the struggle to rebuild the Polish state, to his role in the political life of the Second Polish Republic. The book was published in Leipzig in the year of Piłsudski’s death and is among the earliest foreign studies devoted to his life and work.
