"Popiel made numerous trips to Italy, during which he did a lot of plein air work. Above is a striking painting depicting the rocky coast of Capri, an island he often visited and whose various corners he enjoyed painting. The artist's favorite motif was the sea, which he showed in a very interesting light, with skillful perspective and boldness in capturing the most interesting moments of the rough waves, true, beautiful and good."
