Octagonal bakery token from 1710, used to regulate the distribution and portioning of flour or bread to the bakers of the markets (boulangers) in the Port de la Grève area.
This type of token (called méreau de boulange) was used in Paris in the 18th century.
In the year the token was minted, the Port de la Grève region was struggling with a major food crisis following the harsh winter of 1709, when the authorities introduced strict regulations on the flour trade.
