Andrzej Sobiepan (b. 1982) - graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Faculty of Painting and Sculpture. He defended his diploma in the painting studio of Prof. Krzysztof Skarbek. Finalist of the 11th edition of the Artistic Journey of Hestia competition in 2012. His first significant individual exhibition within the series "Akademism" was realized in 2010 in Geppert's Apartment in Wroclaw. In the same year there was an individual show in the club "NRD" in Torun. Several times he participated in the Survival Art Review in Wroclaw, as an author of sound installations and performer, among others in S. Tolpa Park and Bunker Strzegom. In 2011, he participated in a group exhibition at BWA Studio in Wroclaw. His performance at the National Museum in Wroclaw was widely echoed, when he suspended one of his works unnoticed, attaching it arbitrarily to the Lower Silesian center's art collection for a period of several days. The "Aviaries 2" event at the Contemporary Museum in Wroclaw once again showed that Sobiepan easily arranges the exhibition space holistically, never thinking of the painting in terms of what takes place on its flat surface. A series of site-specific installations and spatial realizations followed individual shows at "MDS" Gallery in 2012 and R46 Gallery in Wroclaw in 2014. At that time the first paintings were created in the form of designed objects with lids and handles, resembling collectibles. A photo-report from this very realization encouraged curator R. Kuśmirowski to invite Sobiepan to participate in the collective exhibition "PALINDROM" at the State Art Gallery in Sopot in 2015. The period of the next few years was intensive work on specific skills and materials, time spent learning varnishing and wood and plastic working techniques. His willingness to rely solely on his own expertise, without having to outsource certain work to third parties, eventually positioned him as an artist, designer and skilled craftsman. One of the most important events in the artist's career was the purchase of his works for the state collection in Bydgoszcz and the group exhibition "Acquisitions 2" at the Municipal Gallery BWA in Bydgoszcz.
