Painter and pianist; he began studying drawing and painting under his father Alexander and the Vilna painter Kanute Rusiecki. Then, from 1855 (56)-1863, he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in the studio of Sergei Zarianka. He studied piano with Stanislav Moniuszko, and in later years gave concerts as a soloist and accompanist. He took part in the January Uprising and was exiled (in 1863) to Kharkiv and Kniagin as part of the repression. In 1867 the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts awarded him the title of "free artist." After being allowed to return (1872), he went to Krakow, and then lived with Jozef Ignacy Kraszewski in Dresden for several years, where he portrayed many people from the landed gentry, including Dzialynski, Mielzynski, Dzialowski and Kwilecki. In 1875 he was again exiled to Kharkiv; in 1883 he returned and settled permanently in Vilnius.
He created portraits, genre scenes, landscapes, as well as works on historical subjects from the history of Lithuania. He painted religious paintings for churches in Moscow, Druskininkai, Pinsk, Vilnius and Janov, among others. In addition, he was also involved in the conservation of paintings.
