Biography
Artist known for painting the Polish Tatra Mountains was born in Nottingham, England, and came to Poland with his father in 1871. In 1884, Sylweriusz Saski began studying painting and sculpture under the tutelage of Władysław Łuszczkiewicz at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow. He received a silver medal for his achievements. In 1890 he moved to Munich where he began his studies at the academy under Otto Seitz, and after returning to Poland he studied at the Department of Composition under Jan Matejko. His paintings of Podhale, portraits of highlanders and Tatra landscapes were very popular.
