Canada 1929 (No Date) Eastern Bank of Canada Engraved Vignette & Photo Proof.
Banks History:
The Eastern Bank of Canada, incorporated by a Private Act of Parliament in 1928 (c. 78) and headquartered in Saint John, New Brunswick, The Eastern Bank of Canada represents one of the most intriguing "phantom" charters in Maritime financial history. Established to serve regional commercial trade, the bank commissioned the Canadian Bank Note Company to engrave high-grade banknotes dated May 15, 1929. However, economic conditions during the Great Depression delayed operations, and following charter extensions through 1932, the birth of Canada’s central bank (the Bank of Canada) in 1934 permanently ended private bank note issuance before the institution could open to the public. As a result, no notes ever entered general circulation. Today, listed under Charlton CH-225, the bank is known exclusively through ultra-rare archive proofs, specimens, and security art—making any surviving institutional material from Saint John a centerpiece of Canadian paper money history.
