Priekšmeta apraksts

Co-feeling, or the need for closeness, ceramic and wooden base, dimensions: 13 x 19 x 19cm, weight: 837g., not signed.

ARTIST ABOUT THE SCULPTURE:

JOINTLY SEEING, is an interactive object that resonates with human presence. This work is a response to the need for closeness, to the loneliness we have to face in this pandemic time. We live among people at a distance, unable to touch or shake hands, and the need for coexistence and participation in social life is lined with fear. "Proximity", which is the leitmotif of this work gains a new dimension... it is limited to the sphere of feelings, deprived of its physical aspect.

The heart sculpture "beats" with white light to the rhythm of human heartbeats the faster the closer the observer is.  When a person is at a distance of about 4 meters, the "heartbeat" has a normal, slow rhythm, when he comes closer the "heart" beats faster and faster, as if excited by the presence of a person.

The interactivity of this work relies on a light response that is aroused when a human is nearby. Motion sensors mounted on each side of the wooden base trigger the light "beating" of the heart.

The presented object is a finished project consisting of three elements: a glazed porcelain heart, a wooden base and a control mechanism hidden in the base, connected to electricity by a cable with a power supply. The mechanism consists of eight sensors probing the distance, a control board and led lighting hidden inside the heart.

THE ARTIST ABOUT HERSELF:

Barbara Bednarowicz, born in 1984. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 2012 she graduated with honours from Prof. Adam Myjak's studio at the Department of Sculpture.

I look for inspiration in people. Studying human nature, observing corporeality, I want to talk about spirituality. I am interested in the contradiction of the image that man creates for the external world and the emotionality and complexity of the internal image. Sometimes I use deformation, grotesque or abstract image of a man.

I create sculptures, installations and objects, most often using material close to human like: porcelain, clay, earth, concrete and stone...
