Remo Squillantini (1920–1996) – an Italian painter and illustrator based in Florence. After a period of intense activity as an illustrator, he devoted himself to painting starting in the 1970s. He became famous primarily for his figurative scenes depicting people in everyday situations—in bars, cafés, while playing games, having fun, or enjoying musical performances. His work is characterized by an expressive style, irony, and a melancholic observation of human vices. His most recognizable series include “I sette peccati capitali,” “Il cabaret,” “Il mare,” “Suonatori di jazz,” and “I giocatori.”
