Lucian Freud (1922-2011) - one of the most prominent British painters of the 20th century, grandson of Sigmund Freud. Born in Berlin, he emigrated to Great Britain with his family in 1933. Among other things, he studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. Initially associated with Surrealism, he quickly developed his own painting language - brutally honest portrait realism. His work focused on studies of the body, the psychology of the model and physical materiality. He painted mainly nudes and portraits, using thick, pasty oil paint textures. Freud was a professor at the Slade School of Fine Art, and his works are in the world's most important museum collections, including the Tate Britain, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Centre Pompidou.
