53 Tōkaidō stations (Japanese: 東海道五十三次 Tōkaidō gojūsan-tsugi) - postal stations (shukuba) that were located on the Tōkaidō road that ran along the Pacific coast. It began at Nihonbashi in Edo (present-day Tokyo) and ended at Sanjō Ōhashi in Kyoto.
Stations on the Tōkaidō
Originally, there were 53 postal stations on the Tōkaidō, where wanderers could, among other things, stay overnight and get food, but had to show documents authorizing them to travel along the road.
All the stations, along with the starting and ending points of the route, are shown below. The stations are divided into the present-day prefectures in which they were located, and the cities are given, along with the districts in which they were located.
