Composition inscribed in an oval with a half-figure of the Muse of Comedy framed ¾ to the left, with her head facing right. It forms a pendant to the representation of the Muse of Tragedy facing the opposite direction. The engraving was first published in London by H. Bryer on May 30, 1777. The engraver, who came from Mannheim, was to be sent in 1775 by Karl Theodor Elector of the Palatinate to study engraving in London at the studio of Francesco Bartolozzi. During his apprenticeship, he produced two works, mentioned above, according to a composition by Angelika Kauffmann.
