Marie Laurencin (1883-1956)
Title: young ladies and dogs
Technique: Color lithograph on Japanese paper
Dimensions of sheet: approx. 67.3 × 59.7 cm
Dimensions with frame: approx. 77.5 × 69.9 cm
Signature: in pencil, in the middle at the bottom: Marie Laurencin
Marking: Épreuve d'artiste (author's print) in lower left corner
Provenance: Galerie Colette Weil, Paris (label on back)

A sensual, pastel graceful lithograph by one of the École de Paris' most recognizable artists. The composition shows a group of elegant women in an idyllic fairy-tale setting. The artist, true to her own artistic language, operates with delicate lines and bleached colors, creating a scene with an aura of childlike innocence and a feminine world without drama. Signed in pencil and marked as an author's print, which increases its collector's value. Preserved in original post-art déco frame with patina of time.

Condition:
Slight traces of age - slight darkening of the paper at the edges, typical of lithographs on Japanese paper from the early 20th century. No significant damage. Frame after restoration with preservation of original structure, with gilding and silvering.

Marie Laurencin (1883-1956)
French painter and printmaker, one of the few women active in the Parisian avant-garde milieu of the early 20th century. A close friend of Guillaume Apollinaire, she was associated with the Cubists, but developed her own style - soft, subtle and romantic. Her work is dominated by female figures, dreamy scenes and pastel colors. She participated in exhibitions of the Salon of Independents and the Autumn Salon, and collaborated with the Russian Ballets and Parisian galleries (including Paul Rosenberg, Colette Weil). After World War I, she gained popularity as a portraitist and interior decorator. Her works are in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, Musée de l'Orangerie and MoMA in New York, among others.
