CORONELLI, VINCENZO MARIA. Epitome cosmografica o Compendiosa introduttione all'astronomia, geografia, e idrografia, per l'uso, dilucidatione, e fabbrica delle sfere, globi, planisferj, astrolabj, e tavole geografiche. Cologne (but Venice), Andrea Poletti, 1693.
8vo (185 x 130 mm), contemporary vellum with manuscript title on spine, red sprinkled edges, internally a clean copy, in good condition; an early ownership entry cancelled by pen on flyleaf and pastedown. Engraved frontispiece, printed title, pp. (30 incl. front.), 420, (16 nn.), textually complete but with only 29 engraved plates (of 38, only 1 celestial chart is present, the “Emisfero settentrionale”), plates mostly double-page, (brown spot at gutter of pp. 359/362, which have shorter margins as from another copy; the celestial chart a bit defective, with small tears and repairs).
First edition, gathering the lectures which Coronelli gave before the Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti, the first geographical society, which he himself had founded in Venice in 1684.
