Pilgrim. A Journal Devoted to Philosophy, History, and Literature. Volumes III–IV [1842]

Warsaw, 1842. Printed by the Bank of Poland. 13.5 x 21.5 cm, 326 pp., (2), 334, (2), IV, cloth binding with a small label. Good condition (ownership stamp “T. Fukier," most likely Teofil Fukier (1816–1891), a Warsaw merchant; slight rust-colored stains on the pages, a small loss of cloth on the spine, scuffs and stains on the binding).

Volumes III and IV of *Pielgrzym*, a Warsaw-based literary, philosophical, and religious journal published from 1842 to 1846 under the editorship of Eleonora Ziemięcka (1819–1869), a Christian philosopher and journalist, recognized as the first Polish woman to pursue philosophy professionally, and the author of works devoted, among other topics, to Catholic philosophy and women’s education. The journal presented philosophical and literary issues from a Catholic perspective, addressing primarily moral, religious, and social questions. Over time, it devoted more and more space to literature and moralizing journalism. It published both original texts and numerous translations, mainly from French. Among the contributors to *Pielgrzym* were Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, Wincenty Pol, Antoni Edward Odyniec, Henryk Rzewuski, Stanisław Jachowicz, and Narcyza Żmichowska. Over the course of five years, a total of 20 volumes of the magazine were published.
