Plato, Gr. Πλάτων, Plátōn (born 427 B.C. probably in Athens, according to some testimony on the island of Aegina, died 347 B.C. in Athens) (other sources say he lived 428-348 B.C.) - Greek philosopher. He was the founder of the philosophical system now known as Platonic Idealism. He was a disciple of Socrates.
Witwicki was an expert in ancient culture, the author of a literarily outstanding and deeply rooted in Polish culture translation of almost all of Plato's works (with commentaries). In 1909, the first of Plato's translated dialogues (The Feast) was published. Witwicki continued to translate and explicate Plato's works until the end of his life. These translations, despite their philosophical and philological non-specialization, are considered excellent in terms of psychological realism, plasticity, accessibility, pictoriality and concreteness.
