Vytautas Jurkūnas (1910-1993) was a famous Lithuanian graphic artist, book illustrator, teacher and one of the most important Lithuanian graphic artists of the 20th century. He studied at the Kaunas School of Art, later taught at the Vilnius Art Institute and trained many generations of graphic artists.
He created estamps, ex-librises, posters, and illustrated books. His works are characterised by precision drawing, decorative style and the influence of folk art traditions. Vytautas Jurkūnas was particularly famous for his woodblock and linocut techniques, and his work often reflected themes from Lithuanian history, folklore and everyday life.
Jurkūnas' illustrations are characterised by clear composition, expressive line and a strong sense of narrative. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern Lithuanian printmaking, and a significant contributor to the development of book art and printmaking in Lithuania.
