The work, painted with oil paints on fiberboard, 100x70cm in size, was created in February 2021 in the studio of Katarzyna Boguszewska, a Krakow-based artist who works under the name QMA.
The painting depicts a rudel of albino deer looking out from behind the lily of St. Joseph. The depicted scene is interpreted by the author as a moment of some kind of soulfulness and contemplation on the transience of our lives.
The rare animals here are shown in a group. They bring to mind extraterrestrial beings, a kind of angels hidden between the petals of white flowers. Special flowers, because the lily of St. Joseph is a symbol of purity, nobility and righteousness.In scouting, the sign of the lily has been used as a symbol of courage and integrity and taking the right path in life. The plant, moreover, is a symbol of the Annunciation and Resurrection-Easter Lily; it has featured in religious iconography, songs and prayers.
At first glance, the viewer does not notice the flies flying between the flowers, and there are several of them. The insects are meant to disrupt this idealized scene. The flies remind us that the world we live in is far from the symbolic ideal. It is full of uncertainty-especially these days when humanity is busy fighting an invisible enemy.
