ROLLE Karol - KRAKOW EXTENSION OF BORDERS 1909-1915
A highly regarded study by Karol Rolle [Mayor of the City of Krakow], dedicated to one of the most important moments in the history of modern Krakow - the process of expanding the city's administrative boundaries in 1909-1915. The publication documents the incorporation of a number of suburban boroughs and suburbs (including Podgórze, Płaszów, Dębniki, Zwierzyniec) into Krakow, which determined the formation of the city's metropolitan character in the 20th century.
Rolle's work is not only a valuable source for the history of urban planning and administration, but also a testimony to the dynamic social and economic changes that accompanied the rapid growth of Krakow during the period of Galician autonomy and on the threshold of Polish independence.
The piece on display was bound in the workshop of Robert Jahoda (1862-1947) - the most prominent Krakow bookbinder of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whose work is characterized by mastery of workmanship, elegance and artistic flair. Jahoda's signature further enhances the collector's value of this item, making it a unique testimony to the book culture of interwar Krakow.
