A richly illustrated study devoted to early Polish folk woodcuts. A brief introductory text discusses its origins, technique, artists, and subject matter, while the main body of the publication consists of reproductions of 99 woodcuts from the late 18th and first half of the 19th centuries. The material is organized thematically—it includes, among other things, images of the Virgin Mary, Christ, and the saints, as well as secular depictions. The album is the result of Skoczylas’s many years of research and documents artifacts from various museum and private collections.
