Rare cap badge worn by students of the Queen Jadwiga Gymnasium in Lviv, one of the educational institutions operating in Lviv during the period of the Second Polish Republic.
School badges were a characteristic element of students’ uniforms in pre-war Polish gymnasiums. Most commonly worn on school caps, they served to identify the school while also emphasizing the wearer’s affiliation with its student community.
The present badge depicts the White Eagle with outstretched wings above the openwork "GKJ" monogram (Gimnazjum Królowej Jadwigi – Queen Jadwiga Gymnasium). It was worn on students' caps as a mark of school affiliation and today constitutes a rare surviving relic of one of pre-war Warsaw's most distinguished girls' secondary schools.
Badge from the Collection of Lech Kokociński, Honorary President of the Polish Numismatic Society.
