Biography
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków from 1900 to 1908 under Florian Cynk, Józef Mehoffer, Leon Wyczółkowski, Józef Pankiewicz, and Jan Stanisławski. He exhibited at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Kraków and Lviv, as well as at the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw (from 1903). He is considered one of Jan Stanisławski’s most outstanding students. He painted in oils as well as in watercolor, a medium in which he achieved impressive, atmospheric effects. In his early career, he also worked in printmaking. His artistic oeuvre is dominated by mountain landscapes, most often depicted in winter settings. Still lifes also appear frequently, as do the Baltic seascapes from Jastrzębia Góra and Rozewie, created in the 1930s.
