Born in 1930, illustrator, painter, sculptor, set designer, art historian. In 1955 he received his diploma from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, in the studio of Prof. Adam Marczyński. A year earlier, he received a master's degree in art history from Jagiellonian University. He is considered one of the most outstanding Polish illustrators. He has collaborated with many publishing houses in Poland and abroad, for which he illustrated more than 200 books, not only for children. The artist does not often depict humans, making animals and nature the heroes of his works. He does not idealize nature, rearranging it as it is, but with a gentle wink. Animals are often representations of human characters, personified, in a way expressing the truth about man. Wilkon's world is fairy-tale-like, often painted with just a few brush or feather movements, which are enough to sum up the flora and fauna. The artist's paintings-illustrations have a touch of sentimentalism in them, they seem to transport the viewer to the world of childhood.
