This type of sword was typical of the Landsknecht mercenaries and featured a broad, short blade and a prominent guard with curved, twisted arcs. The head is massive, the handle is braided with wire for a better grip. The sword was intended for close combat, and its compact size made it a popular infantry weapon during the Renaissance.
