acrylic/board, 71 x 60 cm
signed, dated and described on the back on the stretcher bar: Zbigniew Dlubak | "MOVENS-15" | 71 x 60 cm | 1969 | acrylic 7/A
The featured painting belongs to the "Movens" series, which the artist initiated in 1965 and continued until 1973. All works so titled are united not only by the abandonment of representing reality in favor of abstraction, but also by the minimization of means of expression and conscious suppression of painterly expression. In the aforementioned series, the artist used uniformly colored, smooth surfaces of paintings. He intersected such a prepared plane with strips of uniform color, but with uneven texture. Despite the use of contrasting colors, we do not perceive these compositions as full of expression. The novelty of the artistic solutions of the "Movens" series was most accurately summarized by Hanna Ptaszkowska in the introduction to the catalog of the artist's exhibition at Foksal Gallery: "Zbigniew Dlubak solves the problems of new painting based on the traditional elements of painting (plane, form, color), but without the participation of traditional means of painting. He does painting without the participation of painting" (in Zbigniew Dlubak. Painting, October 1966, Foksal Gallery PSP [exhibition cat.], Warsaw 1966).
