A bronze issue of Miletus dated to approximately 260–220 BC belongs to the Hellenistic period, when the city operated within the political framework of the eastern Aegean world following the conquests of Alexander the Great.
Miletus, one of the principal cities of Ionia and frequently mentioned in ancient sources (including Herodotus and Strabo), was a major commercial and religious center, especially renowned for the sanctuary of Apollo at Didyma. The city’s minting activity in the Hellenistic era is well documented and included both silver and bronze coinage.
