A very rare 3 kreuzer coin of Joachim Frederick dated 1601, struck at the Reichenstein (Złoty Stok) mint.
A variety distinguished by the characteristic spelling IOA-CHIMI in the obverse legend, rated R3 in the Ejzenhart-Miller catalogue.
This issue comes from the exceptionally brief period of activity of the Reichenstein mint under Joachim Frederick. The Duke acquired Reichenstein from Peter Wok von Rosenberg in 1599 and, after obtaining imperial authorization, began issuing his own coinage there. Silver 3 kreuzer coins were introduced in 1601 and became one of the principal circulating denominations of the mint. Joachim Frederick died as early as 1602, making his Reichenstein issues a relatively small and clearly defined group.
A very attractive example with surviving mint lustre in the fields and an exceptionally impressive portrait of the Duke.
