Sigismund III Vasa, Szeląg, 1596, Wschowa – very rare
A distinctive szeląg of Sigismund III Vasa in which the king’s title is placed on the side featuring the coats of arms.
A variant featuring the Eagle, Pogoń, the Snopek coat of arms (of the Vasa family), and the Lewart coat of arms with the initials I–F (Jan Firlej — Grand Crown Treasurer) on either side of the coat of arms on the obverse, and featuring the royal monogram, the mint mark of the Wschowa Mint (Rose), and the abbreviated date 97 in the border on the reverse—very rare.
An inscription variant featuring the title SIGI 3 … PO M D L in the border on the obverse and the inscription … REG – POL 1596 in the border on the reverse—rarer.
