A very nice example of a 2-złoty coin featuring the Marshal.
The background shows slight discoloration, and the highest parts of the relief are worn.
This denomination was introduced by the reform of January 11, 1924, and coins in this design have been minted since 1934. Pursuant to a decree by the President of the Republic of Poland dated November 5, 1927, these coins could be used to pay debts up to a maximum of 100 zlotych. The coin remained in circulation until November 1939 and was withdrawn by order of the General Government.
The coin was minted at the State Mint in Warsaw in 1934 with a mintage of 10,425,000 pieces and in 1936 with a mintage of only 75,000 pieces.
Obverse: the 1927-style state eagle against a background of rays, with the inscription along the rim:
RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA 2 zlote 2, with the year beneath the eagle’s tail.
Reverse: a bust of Marshal Piłsudski facing left, with the Kościesze coat of arms—the mark of the State Mint in Warsaw—in front of him. On the shoulder, the designer’s signature:
St Ostrowski.
Edge: serrated
The coin is struck from .750 silver, has a diameter of 22 mm, and a standard weight of 4.4 g.
