Hanif Kureshi (India 1982), Painter Kureshi Series - X

Aerosol on canvascm. 122x122. FramedHanif Kureshi is an artist and designer working with typography. His preoccupation with the depleting use of native languages, Kureshi abstracts scripts to create striking text based installations and mixed media works. The artist has led the Handpainted Type project, which attempts to conserve and archive the vernacular street typography of India, which he felt is a characteristic medium of Indian traditions seeming to be lost.


Kureshi has exhibited his works around the world with the London Design Biennale, Venice Biennale, Centre Pompidou Paris, Triennale Design Museum, Milan, Sikka Art Fair Dubai among others. He is the co-founder of St+Art India Foundation, an institution known to have spearheaded the street art movement in India. In 2016, GQ magazine named Kureshi as one of the 50 most influential young Indians.
