Jan Antoni Karczewski (Warsaw 1931 - 2017 Warsaw) Polish painter, member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1977 to 1981, director of the Center for Contemporary Art at the Ujazdowski Castle from 1986 to 1988. He came from a family with artistic traditions. He attended the Stanislaw Staszic High School in Warsaw, and from 1950-1955 studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He received his diploma in the studio of Prof. Kazimierz Tomorowicz in 1956. In addition to oil painting, he specialized in gouache, ceramic mosaics, wall painting and color design in architecture and interior decoration. Longtime member of the Association of Polish Artists: 1961-1964 member of the board of the painting section, and from 1964-1969 its vice president. In the 1970s, a member of the board of the Warsaw District of ZPAP. From 1977 to 1981 he was a docent at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he led the Studio of Problems of Painting in Architecture. In 1971, he took part in painting the plafond of the Marble Cabinet at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
