Jan Eustachy Wolski | is a young Krakow artist of the new generation who, in addition to painting, also creates objects and installations. In his painting practice, he often refers to visual historical motifs, understood as a return to a kind of antiquity, gothic, baroque, which can be observed in very broadly understood culture. The artist sees "the need to return, to reconstruct aesthetics, languages that once existed, [which need] manifests itself both, for example, in fashion (retro/vintage fashion again passing through the following decades from the 1920s to the 2000s), in art (the return of imagery from before the era dominated by photography), and even in social and political life, where it is increasingly rare to look with hope to the future, the feelings associated with it [this need] locating rather in a long-gone history." The artist's paintings often have a 'romanticizing' atmosphere, syncretistically combining various seemingly distant aesthetics into one coherent depicted world. Wolski smoothly transitions between the various components, as if not noticing their incompatibility, and thus creating such an impression in the viewer as well. Color is an extremely important component of Wolski's painting. It usually serves as a glue of distant poles contained in the content dimension of the paintings.
