acrylic/canvas, 100 x 100 cm
signed, dated and described on the reverse: L. Tarasewicz | 2019 | acrylic on canvas | 100 x 100
The featured painting by Leon Tarasewicz is made up of regularly spaced "glowing" dots in the composition. The light, brought out by painterly means, emanates its radiance beyond the painting. What kind of landscape did the artist see this time? What part of the landscape did he want to show us? Although the most important inspiration for the artist is his native surroundings of the village of Valyla, to which he invariably returns, the depicted motif, light and color can be referred to other places, close to every viewer.
"The artist reaches out to' first things. Red and green, blue and orange, purple and yellow. Vertices, levels, circles, squares. [...] Seemingly we are far from traditional painting. Yet it is painting that lies at the core of the genre. And it does not deviate from the old definition of art as acting according to rules. Tarasewicz reaches back to the age-old rules of harmony, measure and order, drawn from the visible world, but which are reflections of ideas." (Maria Poprzęcka, To paint, to look [in:] Leon Tarasewicz, [exhibition catalogue], CCA Ujazdowski Castle. June 23-September 7, 2003, edited by Milada Slizinska, Warsaw 2003, pp. 10-11)
Extraordinary, energetic work by Leon Tarasewicz, winner of the most important Polish awards, to which in 2019 he added the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award.
