Wacław DOBROWOLSKI
1890 Janówka - 1969 Radom
Painter and pedagogue. He studied at the Kyiv School of Fine Arts, and later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg in the studio of Jan Ciąglinski. His education was interrupted by the outbreak of World War I. After receiving his diploma in 1925 and traveling around Russia for two years, the artist came to Poland and settled in Lodz. Already from here he set off for several months of study in Italy, Paris. In 1929 in Lodz he founded a private school of drawing and painting, which in 1937 was renamed the Cyprian Kamil Norwid School of Fine Arts and Art Industry. In 1940, the Nazis arrested the artist and his family, after which they ordered him to leave for Limanowa. From Limanowa Dobrowolski moved to Radom. Soon after arriving in that city, he gathered a group of young art enthusiasts around him and ran a private art school. In 1949 it was transformed into an art center, from which the current art school later grew. At the same time, he remained a very active artist, painting a lot. The domain of Dobrowolski's work was landscape and portrait. His work represents the realistic current of painting.
