Witold Abako was born on March 30, 1958 in Lodz, Poland. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In 1984 he received his diploma in the studio of Prof. Leszek Wajda, brother of director Andrzej Wajda. In the 1980s and early 1990s he worked as a designer and interior architect in Poland and abroad. In 1993, he took the position of Chief Graphic Designer at Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne, where he held the position until 2001. In addition, he is a member of the Association of Polish Artists. The artist is the author of many posters, illustrations and book covers. He was sometimes counted among the "young wild" trend, however, his work develops in many directions: from "figuration", not necessarily "new", to "abstraction". Witold Abako exhibits his works very rarely. He lives and works in Krakow, where for a year he ran the PROBEO Gallery, founded in 2010. In 2015, his artistic work and contributions to the City were recognized by the Mayor of Krakow, who awarded him the HONORIS GRATIA badge. Most of his works are in the hands of private individuals.
