Biography
Yolanta Nitka Nikt studied painting at the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts (she received her degree in painting in 1988 under Prof. Józef Hałas). Her artistic vision was influenced by, among others, Andrzej Klimczak-Dobrzaniecki and Aleksander Dymitrowicz. She was a recipient of a scholarship from the Minister of Culture in 1988–89. Initially, her oil paintings were inspired by simplified potted flowers, “sculptural entities,” and organisms encountered in interiors. This was followed by autobiographical themes of a narrative nature, depicting ordinary life and everyday reality. This was followed by a large series of self-portraits featuring her favorite and most important artists, to whom she paid tribute: “Picnic with Matisse,” “Two Painters” (with Frida Kahlo), “Self-Portrait with Niki de Saint Phalle,” “Developing Nikifor” (with Edward Dwurnik), “A Ride with Rousseau,” “Self-Portrait with Geppert,” “Crouched in Colors” (with Józef Hałas), “Self-Portrait with Maria Anto”. Several paintings reflected her musical fascinations: “With Louis Armstrong,” “With Ella Fitzgerald,” and “With Wanda Wiłkomirska.” Later, her paintings began to feature ordinary dresses, hats, ties, and simple “Still Lifes.” The artist paints outside current trends; she is fascinated by naïve art—with its simple and sincere message. She creates collages using Kurpie paper cutouts and also writes short texts (poems) that she incorporates into her paintings. She seeks out metaphors and the interplay of colorful, painterly worlds. For many years, she has been running SALONIK in Oborniki Śląskie, a venue for gatherings, concerts, and exhibitions.
