The study shows the head of a woman looking up, where the light falls on her. Her eyes are wet, her mouth is slightly open, and her face expresses a very emotional state. Uncovered hair falls in brown curls. She has a pearl earring in her ear. It must be a tragic heroine, or saint whose story is ambiguous because the study is limited to the head. Skin tones are soft and sensual, with a strong influence of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta's tenebrism.
