Print on canvas, 65 x 45 cm, framed: 70 x 50 cm, Signed Lech Bator 2023; Certificate of authenticity of the painting no. 1859, gift of the Artist
Lech Bator
Born in 1986.
The artist has been designing and creating since an early age.
He graduated in graphic design from the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw, where he had the opportunity to train under the tutelage of prominent Polish artists such as Franciszek Starowieyski and Antoni Fałat. At the same time, he works in printmaking and painting.
In most of his paintings he escapes from realistic painting, juxtaposing seemingly distant elements.
Creating graphic compositions, collage painted on canvas, Bator organizes the world in his own way - giving new meanings to signs by placing them in intriguing contexts. A good example is the perverse treatment of the subject of deer at the roar, which is associated in painting with kitsch.
Playing with this convention, Bator has made the animal a kind of trademark in his works, where it appears as a distinctive, often puzzling symbol. According to the painter, the deer is a motif "so anonymous and at the same time human, that in the human-animal hybrids he has created - everyone can see in it what they like."
His paintings so intrigued a Monaco collector that he decided to purchase 70 canvases at a time. And in 2018, in St. Moritz, Switzerland, a set of his works was presented at Art Jed Gallery alongside works by Andy Warhol and paintings by Damien Hirst, one of the best-selling contemporary artists.
Lech Bator has also presented his works in Italy, France, Norway, England and the United States.
