20th Century Expressionist School , The Crucifixion in a Townscape

A powerful and evocative Expressionist depiction of the Crucifixion set against a dramatic nocturnal townscape with architectural elements and a stone bridge reflecting over water. Christ is rendered wearing a vibrant red robe—a striking symbolic departure from traditional iconography—with a green crown of thorns and a fine halo, his body contoured with heavy impasto and dark outlines. The composition displays strong influences of European Expressionism and Sacred Modern Art, combining intense color contrasts, textured brushwork, and emotional depth reminiscent of artists like Georges Rouault or Emil Nolde. Traces of a signature/monogram appear in the lower right corner. Housed in a period polychrome wooden frame. Oil on canvas, 69.5 x 50 cm.
