Alfred de BREANSKI
1852 Greenwich - 1928 London
The son of Polish immigrant Leopold. His siblings Gustav and Julie also became painters. He debuted at the Royal Academy as early as 1872 and his landscape was bought by the Bishop of Peterborough. He painted landscapes of remote parts of Scotland and Wales in a romantic-realist convention. In 1881, he was a co-founder of the Royal Cambrian Academy landscape grouping. In 1885, he settled in east London. At that time, he painted landscapes of the Thames River, in which the influence of French Impressionism is noticeable. Painters were also in his family, his wife Annie Roberts and sons Alfred Jr. and Arthur.
