A unique miniature painting by Marta Podoska-Koch, a Polish artist associated with the trend of sacred painting and art on glass. The artist, working mainly in the second half of the twentieth century, became famous for her subtle religious representations, full of spirituality, in which traditional iconography meets modern, decorative form.
The work on display depicts the image of Our Lady of the Dawn Gate, one of the most recognizable Marian icons of Central and Eastern Europe. The composition is maintained in the artist's characteristic style - synthetic, yet deeply expressive, with clear contours and intense colors. The golden rays and crown contrast with the cool blue of the robes, creating an effect of strong spiritual light, emphasized by the transparency of the glass.
The work is made using a mixed technique - painting on the reverse of the glass, using mineral paints, gold foil and glazing to create a depth and shimmering surface effect. The whole piece is framed in a stylized frame with an organic texture, harmonizing with the intimate character of the work.
Marta Podoska-Koch (1905 Kyiv - 2003) - Studied in the studio of Tadeusz Pruszkowski in 1929-1931, and was a member of the "Fourth Group" founded by Pruszkowski's students. In 1937 her works were exhibited at the Paris exhibition "Les femmes artistes d`Europe" and also at the International Art Exhibition in Stockholm and Paris. After the war she also worked in ceramics, mosaics and applied art.
