DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Mieczysław Krzyżak's paintings usually depicted genre scenes from the life of the Polish countryside and army, as well as hunting episodes. Almost an obligatory element of his works were always horses. The presented canvas is therefore part of the mainstream of the work of this Cracow artist. It depicts a winter scene of an attack by a wolf pack on men riding on horse-drawn sleighs. In the painting one can feel the influence of the Polish realists from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the depiction of the rushing horses from the front brings to mind the work of Jozef Chelmonski.
