František Zdeněk Eberl was an important Czech painter and graphic artist working mainly in France, where he became part of the Parisian art scene of Montparnasse. His work is strongly influenced by expressionism and cubism, but in the area of figural creation, Eberl retained a specific synthesis of modernist expression with an emphasis on the sensuality and psychology of the figure. This female nude exemplifies Eberl's mature style – a balanced composition with rich color and soft body modeling that emphasizes the sensual ease of the reclining figure.
