BOUVARD, ANTOINE (ATTRIBUTED TO / ATELIER OF) (1870-1956), A Venetian Canal at Sunset

Measuring 50×65" cm" , this glowing Venetian cityscape (veduta) captures the poetic charm and warm, Mediterranean atmosphere characteristic of the celebrated French painter Antoine Bouvard.
The view opens along a quiet canal toward the open Venetian lagoon. Gondolas rest along the stone quay (fondamenta) while a lone gondolier navigates the reflective turquoise and gold waters.
Bouvard was renowned for his unique palette, dominated by rich terracottas, warm ocher, yellow oxide, and soft teal skies. The late afternoon sun casts a warm, golden glow over the historical plaster facades, creating shimmering reflections on the water's surface.
Painted with fluid, impastoed brushstrokes that combine impressionistic spontaneity with architectural accuracy. Oil on canvas, 50 x 65 cm
