The author discusses both contemporary forgeries and modern techniques for counterfeiting old coins, including new strikes using old dies, electrotyped copies, castings, and coins struck with counterfeit dies. A separate section describes counterfeit gold and silver coins, including those imitating authentic issues and entirely fictitious pieces, and the work is rounded out with information on the activities of counterfeiters.
