Fifth edition. The second part of the Trilogy was originally published in the periodicals *Słowo*, *Czas*, and *Kurier Poznański*. Sienkiewicz wrote *Potop* for nearly two years, from December 1884 to September 1886. During that time, he cared for his seriously ill wife, who died in October 1885. Despite these adverse circumstances, he completed the work, and the result is a masterpiece that has captivated successive generations of Poles.
