Biography
He studied in Wojciech Gerson’s Drawing Class in Warsaw. During his studies, he received a letter of commendation from the St. Petersburg Academy as part of a state competition for drawing schools. In the years 1888–89 and 1889–90, he studied at the Kraków School of Fine Arts under Jan Matejko. From the fall of 1890, he lived in Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, at the Académie Julian under William Adolphe Bouguereau, and at the Académie Colarossi under Raphaël Collin. In 1897, he traveled to Naples, Rome, and St. Petersburg; in Rome, he attended the Royal Institute of Fine Arts. His primary focus was on mural painting and its conservation. He also painted small-scale oil paintings and watercolors, mainly landscapes from the Vilnius region, Volhynia, the Warsaw area, Nałęczów, and Krynica, as well as vedute of Polish and European cities. Toward the end of his life, he mostly painted flowers. He exhibited in Warsaw: at the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, the Krywult Salon, the Artistic Salon, the Garliński Salon, the Krakow Society of Friends of Fine Arts, Vilnius, Lviv, Lublin, Katowice, Częstochowa, Poznań, Gdynia, as well as abroad: in Berlin, Darmstadt, London, and Chicago.
