Copy of an unknown author's painting according to Artur Grottger. Horizontally arranged painting depicting interiors with officers of the draft board in 19th century uniforms around a table covered with dark red cloth. In the center of the composition is a young man in a light-colored shirt, standing at the table and reaching for an urn with lottery tickets set on it.
To the right stands a uniformed man and an elderly woman at the door. In the background, elements of the interior are discernible, including crosses hanging on the wall.
The color scheme is subdued, with a predominance of browns, greens and dim reds. Painting layer soft, with slightly muted tones. The whole piece is framed in a simple dark frame with an inner gilded profile. In the lower right corner of the painting, faintly visible signature and dating: W. M. 20 V 21?
Oil on canvas.
Dimensions: 30 x 34, 5 cm,
Frame: 43 x 38, 5 cm.
Condition as in the photos.
Artur Grottger's original was created in 1866; it was painted in black and white crayon on cream cardboard. The present color copy appears to have been created, not on the basis of the original, but on the basis of an under-colored postcard. It was probably a postcard from the colored series of Grottger's "War", which was published by the Czech publishing house "Minerva" in 1910.
